Since 2005 I have been an independent contractor developing Laser System and Photonics solutions for several companies in the San Francisco Bay Area. Predominantly in the Medical and Industrial Industries.
This includes: Work on industrial laser systems used in solar cell production. Development of novel wavelength fiber coupled laser diodes for medical applications. Project management for medical laser system development. Design and development of test systems for fiber optic catheters.
After obtaining a Ph.D. in Laser Physics from the Centre for Lasers and Applications at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, I completed post-graduate research positions with solid-state lasers at the University of Hamburg, Germany, and the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.
In 1996 I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to work in various positions at the following industrial and medical laser companies.
As Director of Laser Systems Development at Light Solutions Corporation I produced a series of diode pumped solid state lasers for medical, industrial and military applications.
At IRIDEX Corporation I was responsible for laser development for medical systems with applications in ophthamology and dermatology.
At Coherent Inc I was the Product Line Manager for low and high power semiconductor based laser diode products.
